I own a 1997 Volvo 850 and am looking to change the color of the instrument panel. does anyone know if i can just put in new led bulbs or if i have to get some kind of colored plastic sheeting to place behind the panel?1997 volvo 850 instrument panel lighting.?the cluster is accessed by removal of top of dashboard. there are hidden screws. the ubiquitous haynes manual shows where all the screws are. after top removal the cluster can be unbuckled, harnesses unclipped and removed. place flat, face down on a clean blanket. remove only the illumination bulbs [not the warning bulbs] now go to our nearest nissan dealer's parts counter and tell him what you are up to.
nissan radio and heater control bulbs have thin plastic covers [various colors available] these roll off or on just like a condom and can be transferred to the volvo's style of bulbs [NOTE: you should replace all of your car's bulbs at this time with new ones wearing the new nissan parts.
while the parts costs for doing this wont be astronomical the labor time may cause this job to fall under is it really worth the trouble [pre supposing all of the cluster illumination is currently working]
