Can plants grow from the light provided from compact florescent light bulbs?

Hi, I have a miniature rose bush that I keep indoors year round. The roses are normally a coral color. Recently I changed all of my light bulbs to the compact florescent light bulbs and one of my rose plants (that is kept next to my lamp) has bloomed a pale pink flower and the new green foliage is lighter than the older foliage. I am curious to know whats going on and If it is the light bulbs creating the changes in color. The plant seems to be doing better then it ever has.|||Some company is making compact fluorescent bulbs with different light spectrums (measured in 1000s of Kelvins). Some of these are made to mimic the sun and should be marketed as %26quot;grow%26quot; lights or something similar.

I just saw them the other day at Walgreens, of all places, right next to the cheap GE and Fiat brand compact fluor. bulbs.

.|||Some people say yes and some say no. I guess only time will tell.|||Unfortunatelly compact fluorecent lamp producers don%26#039;t measure the PAR (photosynthetic active radiation level of the products. But you can find some data here:

What type of headlamps are these?

I%26#039;ve seen cars and suv%26#039;s with HID%26#039;s that depending at what angle you are looking at them they change color. They go from a Blue to Violet to White. I%26#039;d like to buy these for my pick-up, What type of headlamps are these? I think its projector headlamps but i%26#039;ve seen some cars with these lamps but they dont have that effect where the light changes color.. Is it the light bulb? |||They are the higher end projectors. They are made with a different kind of glass/crystal combined with an HID bulb. Just because it is a projector housing, doesn%26#039;t mean it has an HID bulb. Also it needs to be a 6000k HID. The 8000k and up is to blue for the projector to defract the light.

Having problems replacing bulbs in our pre lit Christmas tree. We want to change from solid White to Color Bulbs. The Wife bought some replacement bulbs we put them in the socket and they light up for a second then burn out. I tried searching my tree online but could not find a web site or anything the brand name is %26quot;Holiday Joy%26quot; and is made in China.|||If you want to have colored lights but don%26#039;t want the hassle of finding the right bulbs and changing them out, I%26#039;d suggest getting colored light caps: http://www.christmasworld.com/christmas-鈥?/a>

like if you%26#039;re in the uk with 240v and you have 40 bulbs on the tree then they will normally be wired in series and each bulb will be 6v

and the voltage of the bulbs changes depending on how many you have on the tree and your wife must have bought ones of a lower voltage|||the voltage is on the adapter and really you cannot these trees are so cheap that you buy another tree but if you have a big base for the tree to stand in then inside this there may be a strip of coloured plastic and which turns round this determines what colour the lights will be

LGBT: If you were a light bulb, what colour would you shine?

Blue, green, red or white? Maybe pink, purple, yellow or violet? Rainbow? Other?

Do you think the colour and intensity would change with your mood or disposition, or would it stay the same and be more like a fashion accessory, matching your eye and hair colour, complexion and clothing?

And a 2nd question: Sometimes people ask Q%26#039;s in here and address the group as LGBTQ. What does the %26quot;Q%26quot; stand for? %26quot;Qatar%26quot; or %26quot;Queretaro%26quot;? %26quot;Qcumber%26quot;? Could you Q me in?

Than-Q!

|||The light I would shine would be golden. Warm, radiant and full of life. The longer I exist, the brighter I get. I will shine my energy so bright, that even the darkest of corners will reflect it. The deepest frowns will be illuminated and transformed. No shadows will exist, and everything will be open to be seen in all of its splendor and squalor. People will be able to look upon their world without bias and without a haze. Things will be revealed for what they are, and embraces by my luminescent glow.

Oh, and Q stands for Questions. Because we all ask questions. I actually don%26#039;t know... maybe Queer, or Questioning? Hmmm....|||Purple =)

And I think the Q is for queer|||The Q is for questioning, like if they aren%26#039;t sure what their orientation is.

As for the Q, I have seen others say it too, but I am quite sure it means the person is questioning the orientation they put down. To say it means queer just doesn%26#039;t seem like anything one of us would say about ourselves. I may be wrong.

Red was the natural color and that is the way they were made, even the hose was red back then and I believe the nozzles were black.

Then hoses and nozzles were changed to white when other materials and colors became available. I even have a white bag at home, but red is still the most common color, I don%26#039;t know whether it is because of the materials or just good old sentimental value.

I broke a fluorescent light bulb in my bedroom, will I be okay?

So today I was changing a fluorescent light bulb in my bedroom, you know, the long and white color light bulb and I accidentally drop it and it landed on the chair then fell onto the carpet, now the glass pieces are everywhere on the carpet and some white powdery stuff and then I quickly grab the big glass pieces and then vacuum it with a vacuum cleaner then it was pretty clean then I researched online and found out that these light bulbs contain mercury which is harmful, and the websites said that it shouldn%26#039;t be vacuum and that I have to pick these shattered glasses up with a glove, and that if you vacuum it the white powder stuff would get airborne so I would get mercury on my skin, inhale it in my nose, lung, so will I get mercury poisoning or be fatal? Would I get cancer, help please.|||Yes, you%26#039;ll be fine.

Not only is there barely any mercury such that you would get more from just about anything in the house including gold jewelry but the form of mercury that%26#039;s in the bulbs isn%26#039;t bio-available and isn%26#039;t easily absorbed by your body.

The concern over mercury in the bulbs is because if they end up in anaerobic landfills, the anaerobic bacteria will bio-methlyase the mercury into methly-mercury which is bioavailable and will bioaccumulate up the food chain to toxic levels. You would have to break millions of bulbs in your room, remove all oxygen to let the anaerobic bacteria at it, then have an entire ecosystem to bio-accumulate up the food chain and then eat the bald eagle at the top of the food chain for you to be harmed.

Now pass me that bald eagle egg salad.|||Relax! Clean it up and vacuum the floor. You have listened to too much Algore and he insisted we only buy bulbs containing mercury! How sane is that?|||you will be fine. There are small amounts of mercury in the bulb and you probably have more mercury in your body from your fillings.the white stuff is called phosphor. It is not poisonous and can be safely vaccumed. The small amount of mercury will evaporate and you could leave your windows open for a few days if you are worried.

I have worked around broken fluorescent bulbs fro years and I have had no ill affects. The second head is almost grown in now.

I%26#039;d rather fix it myself than pay someone a ridiculous amount of money to do it.|||Unless you really know what you are doing, DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR a tv. Step one in changing the picture tube in a television is to update your will.

Step two is to buy a LOT of insurance.

Step three is to wait two years. The life insurance won%26#039;t pay off on suicide unless you%26#039;ve waited that long.|||change a bulb? Good greif people, there ARE NO BULBS IN TVS. ONLY PICTURE TUBES.

if you have a tint that wont go away, you have a short between heater and cathode. you CAN NOT fix this yourself. you must have a tube rejuvenator machine.

BTW, If you are dead set on getting into your television, be sure to yank off the big red wire going up to the top of the %26#039;BULB%26#039; ......this is where you can screw in the new one....

.....RIGHT.|||If your TV has a greenish tint to it it is either a part in the picture tube circuitry or the picture tube itself that has gone bad. There are parts in TV%26#039;s that are no larger than the period at the end of a sentence. If it is the tube that is bad, you are better off replacing the tv. A new tube will cost more than a new tv and parts availability for a new tube is doubtful.

I have worked in the industry for 9 years. Try a hard reset - unplug the tv for half an hour and try it again. If that doesn%26#039;t fix it either take it to an authorized servicer or recycle the old one and get a new one.|||Ace Repair wrote:

%26quot;change a bulb? Good greif people, there ARE NO BULBS IN TVS. ONLY PICTURE TUBES. %26quot;

That used to be the case. Now there are bulbs in the DLP (digital light processor) models. So to answer the question:

You can change a lamp in a DLP television yourself. The question you have to ask yourself first is do you want to really do this if the set overheated due to lack of proper cleaning? The answer to that question is no. DLP TV models or DLP projectors that overheat should probably be repaired at a factory service center for that brand and model of TV or projector. The reason is that some times only the factory can repair the problem.

If you have a DLP TV or projector you can replace the lamp yourself if you follow the manufacturer%26#039;s instructions to the letter. Specifically the unit should be shut down properly, cooled till the fan stops, and then unplugged in that order. Then the old lamp can be removed and the new lamp can be installed. Also if there is a usage lamp meter you will need to reset it per the manufacturers instructions unless it is automatic as in triggered by a serial number built into the new lamp (this varies with manufacturers and models).

LCD TVs have a lamp in them as well. It illuminates the screen. It is likely to be a flourescent lamp. I have not changed an LCD lamp because each time it has gone out there was no way to tell if there was any other damage to the display. So I would send this in to the factory but I suppose if you talk to their technical support and they recommend it you might be able to change this. This probably is not as user accessible and may expose you to high voltage if you are not careful. Again the power has to be disconnected.

CRT TVs only have picture tubes and you do not want to replace these on your own. This is too dangerous unless you are a TV service technician. The high voltage can stay charged in the set even when the power is off. This is not a consumer repairable item. STAY OUT OF THIS KIND OF SET.

Plasma TVs also come under the non user servicable catagory for various reasons. This one is more of a heat risk for your skin if you handle it wrong. And there is no bulb here.

D-ILA is the new technolgy only from JVC. If you have one of these and something is wrong with it send it back because it almost has to be under warranty. I think this is somewhat like the LCD only brighter and I really have not seen one of these yet so I am somewhat unfamiliar with it. It is sort of a cross between the LCD and the Plasma for the best features of both.

%26gt;%26gt; Can any LED light bulb color be changed %26lt;%26lt;

Each semicoinductor junction emits a single color.

A red led will always be red. Green will always be green.

There are special LED packages built with multiple junctions each having a different color.

i.e. biased one way it is red, another green, but each is actually a different LED.

Red and green together or switched back and forth quickly and it would appear yellow.

Yes, but not using just any LED. Your typical LED emits a single color, but not a narrow corhent beam you see from a laser.

A question about irises changing colors?

I had these irises in my back yard. They were white irises, they must have been there for ten years or so. I recently transplanted some of the bulbs to my front yard. When they came up this year they were dark purple! Can anyone explain this?|||You%26#039;ve probably had a couple of types of iris growing together. White iris won%26#039;t become purple, but since most iris foliage looks the same and can grow into a huge hard to sort mass it%26#039;s easy to mix them.

It%26#039;s possible that the purple iris were lacking something needed to bloom in your back yard, or were too tightly packed, and now were able to get the energy to bloom.

What is best "plant-like" life can I add to fish-only w/ live rock aquarium for color & texture? Mushrooms?

I have years of experience with freshwater but I am just starting to cycle a fowlr 75 gallon tank with live rock (no fish yet). The live rock is showing great life but I would love to have more color and texture.

I am not ready for a reef tank. I like to take things in baby steps! Lots less stress. Also, the hood/lighting on my tank is the regular one bulb that comes with freshwater tanks and I am thinking about changing the lighting. I would appreciate suggestions and if known the cost expectations...

Thanks so much!|||%26quot;Mushrooms%26quot; are a coral look-alike (actually called a corallomorphallian) that have photosynthetic algae in their cells. So if you want to keep these, it would be best to change that light over your tank. I%26#039;ve had good success keeping them with double tube high output compact fluorescents and they are easy to keep once you%26#039;ve found the tank level (lights %26amp; current) that suits them best. Riccordia are about the same. With better lighting your live rock will develop more color as well - you%26#039;ll be able to see sponges, macroalgaes, and coralline algae that aren%26#039;t growing that well now.

You can also add color with other inverts - shrimp for reds, emerald (mithrax) crabs for green or red, hermit crabs (blue-legged and scarlet), and with a 75 gallon, you cold keep a sea star - there are green and yellow serpent stars, blue, orange, and purple linikia stars, red and white tile stars, etc. that won%26#039;t need better lighting at this point, but will require feeding since you don%26#039;t have fish yet.

I%26#039;d start with a lighting upgrade - it will make what you already have look better without anything upsetting the tank cycling - and it will make what you get in the future look even better! A double tube compact will run $100-$200+ for a 48%26quot; model depending on the features you get with it (moonlight LEDs, metal halide combo, etc.). Inverts should start around $7 for some of the crabs up to $80+ for large live rock pieces with mushroom colonies.

Go to a theater light supply store and buy some blue gel and replace the green ones. Yes you do have to remove the cluster to do this.|||If its LED Then get Blue LED Bulbs

If its Electronic Gel get Blue Electronic Gel|||One..it%26#039;s regular incandesent bulbs no leds.... and they are clear

Two, the poster is right on the color being part of the overlay but you can%26#039;t just %26quot;add%26quot; colored paper back there.... actually it%26#039;s very hard to get back there... changing the bulb color might cahnge the hue a little to a blue green tint perhaps.

But it requires removal of the instrument cluster, and it%26#039;s not a first time DIY job.... as if you mess it up, you get to tow the car to the dealer... that%26#039;s right TOW... the cluster is needed to start the car, no way around it.

There are overlays you can buy for this car online (like at Crutchfield.com), but I recommend taking it somewhere to get it done... as you have to remove and reinstall the needles... mess up and you can bring it back to the dealer for a new cluster (at $350 parts + about $150 labor)|||You may be able to change the bulbs, if they green. Sometimes they are clear/white and the panel itself has the color. Check with some Custom Car Supplies on the Inet and see what they have. I not done this in a log time, but, some of the stuff is %26quot;Cherry%26quot; and not too expensive. I will look around. How do i change my heatlight bulb for a 1998 toyota camry?

What is the legal brightness for a light bulb to be legal. or color temperture for the state of hawaii?|||Most bulbs that are sold as headlight bulbs are considered legal.

There are two types for your car, class A which is 55 watt low beam, 65 watt high beam, and class B which is 35 low beam and 65 watt high beam. Both are legal, though you are likely to find the class B ones ot be more common on the shelves.

I believe to change the headlight on one side, you actually need to remove the mount for the battery and tip it back to gain access, though you can get away without actually disconnecting it.

Oh, you will need a 9003 type lamp for your composite style headlamp.

What's your favorite christmas lights color?

The holidays are coming up soon, and I need to start buying some new christmas lights this year. I need new mini-bulb strands of lights. I was thinking about changing my old colors, and trying out some new colors for the following years to come. My question to you is, What is your favorite christmas lights color/what color do you like the most for christmas lights? |||I like multi colours flashing lights.|||Omgosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible to change the color of the gauges on a 2010 silverado?

I want to change the color from green to perhaps red, but I don%26#039;t want to have to buy and install a gauge cluster kit or something. Could I just buy a bulb or something like that?|||Unfortunately, that green is actually a film on the back of the dash, so while a bulb WILL change the color, it will be ridiculously dark, and red and green light wavelengths destroy each other.|||no

How many color combos is this?

I have three light bulbs that have seven colors each that change colors.... what is the number of combinations possible?|||this is easy

so there are 3 lightbulbs with 7 colors

u would do the math like 7x7x7 = 343

343 possible color combinations|||7^3. Seven colors for each bulb, 3 bulbs|||So that you don%26#039;t mess up from don1s answer it is 343 combinations.

Colour Changing LED Ceiling Light Only Shows One Colour?

I recently purchased three Deltech MR16 1.4W 21 LED Colour Changing light bulbs for my ceiling. The lights have three %26quot;rings%26quot; of LEDs, the innermost ring has 1 LED, the next ring has 6, and finally the outer ring has 14 LEDs.

After installing the bulbs, I have found that only the two inner rings of LEDS actually light up - showing an orangey red colour which dims and brightens slightly suggesting it is adjusting to allow the blend of colours to show. However, the outer ring does not light up, meaning all I get is a Red-orange colour. Has anyone had this problem and does anyone know how to correct it? The bulbs are correct for my fitting and the voltage is also correct.|||They need a driver to fully change to all the colors.

How do I change the color of my light?

I bought 2 50 watt high pressure sodium lights to use instead of metal halides, and they work fine but the color of the light is yellow. I was thinking of adding a single strip bulb fixture with a different color light to even the color out so it will match my pc. What color should the light be?|||blue that would look great|||Red, would be cool|||a black(purple) light would be cool.or a blue one.|||if you just want to change the color you can go to the craft store and buy a jell sheet . then just cut it to fit under the light .

thats a cheap way and jell sheets come in every color under the sun.|||Cut a piece of thin glass that will fit over the glass in your lid. Go to a craft store and buy a paint kit that is used for making fake stained glass. Paint rainbow stripes down the length of the glass for some cool effects in the water. Some areas will appear darker than others, like real sunshine beaming through clouds.

Swimming Pool Light (multi - color) does not change colors.?

Two years ago we installed an in-ground swimming pool with an multi colored pool light. (4 individual colors or it can slowly rotate between each color). Anyways, six weeks ago it stopped changing colors and will only provide clear lighting. In addition the bottom half of the light circle has turned a dark brown color that is visible during the day.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is (water leakage, bulb outage, etc....) Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated.|||The brown may be algae growing. I know mine gets cloudy and I have to take it apart and clean it. If it has stopped rotating, it may be a problem with the mechanism that makes that happen. Be it a motor or whatever. I%26#039;d check with the manufacturer to see if they have any suggestions.

Can i change the color of dashboard lights?

2003 Honda Civic...want to change my plane white lights to a nice baby blue or pretty lavender purple do you think they carry different color bulbs for this project.???|||Yes, I have some blue ones I was going to put in my Buick, but never got around to it. I think I bought them at Wal-Mart.|||It%26#039;s possible, but likely a whole lot more work and trouble than it is worth. I once put blue magic marker on the stock bulbs and got good results.|||yeah, at any auto parts store. cheap anywhere from 4 bucks to 20.

Does a blacklight have more uv than a 100watt incandescent bulb?

I%26#039;m doing a science project to test the strength of sunblock spf by using beads that react to uv rays(change color). Instead of sunlight I need to know whether a blacklight or a 100 watt bulb has more uv. any other tips for the project would be great too. thanks =)|||If you use a fluorescent blacklight tube, it has much more UV than an incandescent bulb (and would be much better for your experiment). you can buy incandescent blacklight bulbs, which are just normal bulbs with a UV pass filter on them and they don%26#039;t work very well.

Do you think it might be hard to get the sunscreen on the UV beads? Also, remember that sunscreen is protecting from higher energy UVA and UVB rays. Most of the UV in blacklights is in the safer low-energy-near-visible UV--you don%26#039;t usually get a suntan under them. You might consider the fluorescent bulbs for tanning beds? There are also small, handheld UV units for geology that use higher energy UV. Also, some halogen lights let out a lot of the higher-energy UV and require a special glass screen for safety. Anything that you buy for consumer use will have very low UV that is below the range that is targeted by sunscreen. If you remove any of the protective filters from consumer products (like the glass from a halogen work light), you may endanger yourself, so be very careful!

Also consider that many sunglasses and lab goggles are supposed to block high-energy UV rays and may be good for an experiment (and good for you to wear while performing such an experiment)

How to change Color Of cluster in gauges of my 01 Tundra?

I have a 2001 Toyota tundra. I know some people who have moded their gauge cluster colors. Yet of course they have different cars. so different bulbs and different way to change them and such.

Does anyone know the exact clusters i need to change them to a different color?

Is it even possible on my year and truck to change the gauges colors?

Help please. Thanks!|||about the only way to change the colors is a new dash, you can pull your dash and replace bulbs but the color of the film over the lights will effect the difference

What is the bulb number in my instrument panel on my 1999 Lincoln Town Car?

I want to change the bulbs to leds on my instument panel to a different color but I dont know the bulb number and I dont want to open it up till I get the bulbs.|||The bulbs are #194 Wedge Base, 3.78-Watt bulbs (the sockets are part of the instrument panel, and the bulbs just push into the socket).

They do make LED Wedge Base replacements, available from many after-market manufacturers that will 100% fit/replace the factory bulbs. You can get them in a wide variety of colors and brightness. They run anywhere from $6 - $12 each, depending on color, intensity, and manufacturer.

You will also need anywhere from 8-20 bulbs to fully replace all lamps on the instrument panel (I can%26#039;t remember how many are needed on the 1998-2002 panel, but your repair manual or local dealer can tell you).

The main thing to remember is that LED bulbs operate on a specific voltage and do not %26quot;dim%26quot; like standard OEM incandescent bulbs. Operate the dimmer switch %26quot;higher%26quot; until you have applied enough voltage to the lights, and the LED%26#039;s will energize (turn on). Moving the dimmer switch higher will not result in a brighter light. You will most likely have to leave the dimmer switch in the %26quot;full-on%26quot; position to ensure proper operation and life of the LED.|||LED lights are usally sauderd in so i don%26#039;t think that will happen. Have you pulled the dash yet, check it out it%26#039;s a long job to tackle.

How would I change interior lighting color (bulbs) on my 2004 pontiac grand prix GTP? Is it worth the work?

Looking to add a little style without being tacky...|||you can buy packages of interior bulbs from any auto parts supply store. The easiest one is the dome light... followed by the door lights and glove box. I had blue lights in my GP back in the day... looks good, but the color fades fast.

Can light from a light bulb permanently fade or change eye color if it is to close to the eye?

no, but it can cause damage to the retina|||No. The colour of your eyes depends on the pigments in your iris. The light from a lightbulb cannot change this.

Where on earth did you hear such a thing?|||ultraviolet radiation, may damage the eye(burning)like as if you stared at the sun.Doing this could burn your optical nerves,I dont think light could have a permanent change in the pigmentation of the eye,but black light or reflective light can change the hue of the iris temporarily.|||No, but it can permanently damage your eyes!!|||Medical research on the effects of excessive light on the human body suggests that a variety of adverse health effects may be caused by light pollution or excessive light exposure, and some lighting design textbooks use human health as an explicit criterion for proper interior lighting. Health effects of over-illumination or improper spectral composition of light may include: increased headache incidence, worker fatigue, medically defined stress, decrease in sexual function and increase in anxiety

Common levels of fluorescent lighting in offices are sufficient to elevate blood pressure by about eight points. There is some evidence that lengthy daily exposure to moderately high lighting leads to diminished sexual performance. Specifically within the USA, there is evidence that levels of light in most office environments lead to increased stress as well as increased worker errors. However, such high interior lighting levels are not typical outside.

Several published studies also suggest a link between exposure to light at night and risk of breast cancer, due to suppression of the normal nocturnal production of melatonin.|||Basically it depends on the color and sightedness of the donor eye to replace the damage done by performing such a stunt|||Only if it makes you go completely blind, as all completely blind people have the same color eyes, and anyone with even a little vision will not have this color of eye.

What CFL bulb mimics the color of incandescent bulbs. I dont want that white white white light look ?

I want to change over to cfl bulbs, but do not like the white light that CFLs come with. I want a nice warm yellow look that an incandescent provides. I will be purchasing 60 watt and 100 watt equivalents.|||Get the ones that have a %26quot;warm%26quot; color instead of %26quot;cool white%26quot;. You can hardly tell the difference between the light from an incandescent bulb and a %26quot;warm%26quot; fluorescent bulb.|||Popular Mechanics recently did some testing on a variety of CFL bulbs. How do I change the light bulb inside my speedometer and the needle to a different color in a 2002 MINI?

Its stock color is orange, but want to change it to white with a blue needle. any advice were to find this information or how easy it is to do yourself? All answers welcomed!|||This is not an easy DIY thing to do by any means.

Taking the speedo out of the dash in early MINIs is not too difficult with a bit of patience and some good DIY instructions, but changing the lights is not going to be easy at all.

The LEDs are surface mounted LEDs, very tricky to work with and very easy to mess something up, meaning expensive circuit board replacement required.

I%26#039;ve seen very few people do this themselves, there%26#039;s one company in the UK I know of who does this (or at least used to), and one person lately I%26#039;ve seen post on a MINI forum that they did this themselves, but did not provide advice on how they did it. They were an electronics whizz though!|||take out all the fastners that hold the dash if there is one lol|||In order to change the light bulb you will need to pull the instrument panel ,once you get it out you will see some black knobs that you will need to turn it in order to get the bulb out.Now to change the needle you will need to pull the front clear cover off and the needle will pop off.

Is there any way to change the color output of a fourescent bulb?

I want to %26quot;turn down%26quot; the output of a T5 bulb from 5900k down to about 5600k. This is possible I think, but I dont know how...|||The color of a fluorescent bulb is caused by the colors at which its coatings fluoresce, plus some contribution from the direct emission of the gas inside. Neither of these things will change if you vary voltage, current, or duty cycle. The only way to change the bulb%26#039;s color is by filtering it.

Edit - OK, I%26#039;ve been told I%26#039;m wrong - the mercury vapor emission characteristic will change somewhat with voltage, and both emission and fluorescence are affected by temperature. So you could try reducing the voltage slightly. Keep in mind that fluorescents aren%26#039;t black body sources though, and when the color balance changes you may get odd color effects.|||this is not possible
