How safe are heat mats, spotted python?

hey guys just wondering. i have had a spotted python for about 1 year and i currently have a heat light with a small 50W bulb in it (its like one of those ones with a reflector and has a reddish color). the first bulb lasted about 6 mths then it blew. so i went and bought another bulb and installed and about 3 days later i noticed it had blown already. thinking i was just a faulty bulb i went to buy another and installed it, this time it blew within the first DAY...so i have decided to change to a heat mat under the tank...so FINALLY getting to my question, are heat mats safe?, do they work well? and do they use up alot of electricity.

ThanksHow safe are heat mats, spotted python?Heat Mats are extremely safe. The heat mats found in your average North American pet shops, are generally inspected, and have built in tolerance levels. They can distribute heat very effectively and efficiently. They use a fraction of the energy a heat lamp does. When I recommend a heating option for snakes, 99.9% of the time I recommend heat pads.

It is recommended like with any heat source that you run it in conjunction with a rheostat or thermostat.

they are fine to use on one side of the tank. i have a few spotties of my own and i use them. just make sure there is a layer of something over it. and you want to buy something to control the temp. so it doesn't get to hot.
